JUVÉDERM® / VOLUMA®

Juvéderm® and Voluma® are a colorless hyaluronic acid gel that is injected into facial tissue to smooth wrinkles and folds adding volume to the facial tissue and restore a smoother appearance to the face temporarily, especially around the nose and mouth. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar found in the human body. The role of hyaluronic acid in the skin is to deliver nutrients; hydrate the skin by holding in water and to act as a cushioning agent.

How Does It Work?
Juvéderm® is injected into the wrinkle that is present at rest, filling the crease just below the top layer of the skin (superficially). Once filled, the wrinkle is less apparent causing the skin to look smoother. Voluma® is injected into the cheek area to give volume where facial fat loss has occurred as well as bone mass has depleted. The volume given by Voluma® reshapes the face to its more youthful shape.

Are The Injections Painful?
Numbing cream can be applied to the area prior to the injection. After about ten minutes, the area will be numbed on the surface making it a less painful injection. Juvéderm® also has Lidocaine mixed in with the hyaluronic gel which aides in a painless experience.

Are The Results Immediate?
Yes. Right after a Juvéderm® injection you will see that the wrinkle that was injected is improved. However, you will experience some swelling in the area so you will want to wait at least four to five days to see the end result of the injection. Immediately after a Voluma® injection you will see volume in the cheek area as well. After a few days and once the swelling dissipates, the volume that is present can give you a more youthful appearance.

Just after injection of Juvéderm® and Voluma® there will be a few spots of entry that will be apparent, some pinkness of the skin, possibly a couple capillaries and a bit of swelling. The swelling can last for just a couple days to a week depending on each patient. However, the swelling will disappear and the results will be very apparent making you very pleased.
